The Bayfort Campground is a private campground just outside the town of Midland on the shore of Midland Bay. If you are planning on camping, you should probably call them at (705) 526-8704 and reserve a site shortly before the weekend. They usually have plenty of space this time of year, so there is no need to book a long time ahead. In past years, most OMDA members have camped on the rows of campsites between the washroom building and the beach. The Bayfort Campground has electricity (some sites), flush toilets, and showers. Campsites have a picnic table and firepit. If you are just coming for the day, remember to stop in at the office to pay the modest day use fee.
Henry's South Fish Restaurant is just a short walk from the camping area (just the other side of Odgen's Beach Road from the campground entrance). On Saturday evening, we usually gather together a sizeable group of OMDAites to enjoy a meal that hasn't been cooked on a Coleman stove.
Midland Bay usually provides pretty good sailing conditions. It is exposed enough that it usually gets good winds, but sheltered enough that the waves don't get too big. Remember the water will still be fairly cold this early in the season, so dress appropriately. A wet suit is a good idea.
We launch our boats directly from the beach at the Bayfort Campground. Remember to get someone to move your launching dolly off to one side after you launch so it isn't in the way of people swimming or paddling at the beach.
